ERW/EFW spiral seam welded Steel Pipe/tube
Stainless Steel Pipe and Carbon Steel Pipe are the most common type of standard pipe used today. They are part of tubular goods which are manufactured to different specifications and standards. Pipes are sold by "nominal pipe size" in sizes from 1/8" to 72". Two most common types of pipes are Welded Pipe and Seamless Pipe. Both are available in carbon steel and stainless steel. Welded pipe is also called ERW (Electric Resistance Welded) pipe. Most common specification for welded carbon steel pipe is A53. Seamless pipe is made by process that requires no welding. Most common specification for seamless carbon steel pipe is A106 B Steel Pipe. Stainless Steel pipe is made to spec A312. Stainless steel pipe is also available in both seamless and welded configuration. Most common stainless material is 316 and 304.

· Testing Requirements for seamless and welded API 53 steel pipe
o Hydrostatic Testing test pressures for plain and threaded and coupled pipe are specified. Hydrostatic pressure shall be maintained for not less than 5 seconds for all sizes of seamless and ERW pipe.
o Mechanical Tests:
§ Tensile Test: Two transverse tests required on the ERW for NPS 8 and larger, one across the weld and one opposite the weld.
§ Flattening Test: On ERW for NPS 2 and larger, STD and XS wall (not required for XXS pipe)
§ Bending Test (cold): For NPS 2 and under, XS wall and under; for NPS 1-1/4 and under, XXS wall
